Carol Jazzar is pleased to present Breakdown, a solo exhibition by Miami artist Robert Huff. This will be Huff’s first exhibition at the gallery and will feature a series of small abstract drawings and sculptural works.

These recent works were inspired by Huff’s time in the Appalachian Mountains and his exploration of the coal regions of southwestern Virginia, West Virginia and eastern Kentucky.

In this landscape the drama of the environmental battle of the region is sobering. Coal companies are digging deep into mountains with slight regard for human life, literally decapitating mountain ranges and effectively destroying the majesty of the ancient mountains, forests, streams, wildlife habitat, and entire communities. His work reflects his fascination with the push and pull of natural and man-made structures in the visual environment.

The pieces are also reflective of Huff’s on-going love affair with materials, intricate visual riffs and architectural structures.

Robert Huff has lived and worked in Miami-Dade since the late 1960’s. His work has been exhibited at various institutions including the Lowe Museum, Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art, MOCA North Miami and the Bass Museum. He has had numerous public commissions and his work is included in private and public collections such as Delta Airlines, Miami-Dade and Broward Art in Public Places, Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art and the Ringling Museum of Art.

Huff was a long time professor and head of the Art Department at Miami-Dade College’s Kendall Campus. Robert Huff now divides his time between Miami, Florida and southwest Virginia.
